CrumblerGranular effect · any sound into a moving cloud of its own grains, at the same loudness
Crumble any sound into a cloud of grains.
Insert it on a vocal, chords or a loop and the sound crumbles into a wide, moving cloud of its own grains. Two big knobs set how long each grain is and how many play at once, the cloud stays at your track's loudness, and one key holds it in the air.

The same part, without and with Crumbler.
The default cloud on a soft sung phrase
A soft sung RnB phrase - Init (150 ms grains, DENSITY 70 %, MIX 50 %)
Vocal Halo on a female vocal hook
A sung female vocal hook - Vocal / Vocal Halo (MIX 35 %, SCATTER 60 %): wide and low under the lead
The cloud 12 semitones up on a cut-up female vocal
A sung female vocal, cut into phrases - the bright preset with PITCH +12
A sung phrase held as a pad
A soft sung vocal - the long-grain pad preset, the hold key pressed 7 s in
Smooth Texture on soft electric piano
Synthesised slow electric-piano chords - Pad / Smooth Texture (250 ms grains, DENSITY 90 %)
Sparse grains on a punchy drum loop
A synthesised dry, punchy drum loop - Sparse Grains (60 ms grains, DENSITY 0 %, SCATTER 50 %)
The vocals are sung loops; the electric piano and the drum loop are synthesised, computed rather than played. Each pair is loudness-matched.
Crumbler in action
Crumbler in under a minute on a sung phrase: GRAIN short and long, DENSITY thin and full, PITCH +12, the hold key, a preset and ENGAGE.
Why Crumbler
Granular without the lab
Most granular tools are built for sound design: dozens of controls and a manual to match. Crumbler keeps the cloud to two big knobs, GRAIN and DENSITY, with SCATTER and PITCH under them, each with a line that says what it does in plain words.
Texture, not volume
Granular tools often jump in level as you turn them. Crumbler's cloud is trimmed to your dry sound's loudness at every setting, and every factory preset sits within 0.32 LU of the dry, so A/B and MIX compare the texture, not the level.
The same cloud every render
Randomness that never renders the same twice makes a mix hard to finish. From the same start, Crumbler renders the same cloud bit for bit, at any block size and beside other instances.
Grain. Density.
Two big knobs do the work: how long each grain is, from crackling bits to a smooth melt, and how many play at once, from single grains to the thickest cloud.

The granular plugin
- Two big knobs. GRAIN sets how long each grain is; DENSITY sets how many play at once.
- Texture, not volume. The cloud is level-matched to your dry sound at every setting.
- Hold it in the air. One key holds the last second as a cloud, automatable and MIDI-learnable.
- The same every render. From the same start, the cloud is bit-identical.
- GRAIN, DENSITY, SCATTER, PITCH and a tail knob; the hold key.
- Three types: CLOUD, a granular repeat, and STRETCH.
- MIX, Input and Output gain, IN and OUT meters, and ENGAGE.
- 16 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
GRAIN · DENSITY
How long. How many.
GRAIN sets each grain from 32 to 512 ms; DENSITY sets how many play at once, about 15 at the default. Short grains crackle; long ones melt into a smooth bed.
What Crumbler does
Every control has one job: the cloud you hear in your head, faster.
GRAIN
How long each grain is
The grain length, 32 to 512 ms, 150 ms by default. Short grains crackle and glitter, clicky bits on drums; over about 140 ms they blend into a smooth texture; the longest melt into a pad. The line under it prints the grain length.
DENSITY
How many play at once
From single grains with gaps at 0 %, SPARSE, to about 15 at once at the 70 % default, to the thickest cloud at 100 %. The line under it prints how many play at once.
TYPE
Three kinds of cloud
CLOUD, the granular cloud; the ECHO key, a granular repeat whose time SCATTER sets, 160 ms at the defaults and up to 644 ms; and STRETCH, the smoothest cloud, attacks smeared into a wash over about 106 ms.
The hold key
Hold the cloud in the air
One key under DENSITY holds the cloud: it stops listening and keeps playing the last 1.02 seconds it heard, while new sound passes dry under it. Latching, automatable and MIDI-learnable; never stored in a preset, an undo step or a saved session.
SCATTER
Reach and width
How far back the grains reach, 0 to 612 ms, 153 ms by default, and how wide they spread, centred at 0 % to the whole stereo field at 100 %.
PITCH
Lift or lower the cloud
The grains' pitch, -24 to +24 semitones, with stops at 0, ±7, ±12 and ±24. Only the cloud is pitched, never your dry sound: +12 gives a bright, glassy cloud over the part.
The tail
How long the cloud lingers
The small knob labelled SPACE sets the cloud's tail, 0 to 100 %, 30 % by default: feedback into the cloud and a soft tail together, none at 0 %. The tail is reported to your DAW so a render includes it.
Level-matched
Texture, not volume
The cloud is trimmed to your dry sound's loudness across every type and knob: the default reads -0.1 to -0.2 LU from the dry at -10, -18 and -26 LUFS in, and every preset averages within 0.32 LU.
MIX, IN, OUT and ENGAGE
Fit it to the track
MIX blends the cloud with the dry, equal power, 50 % by default, the dry held back by the latency so the two line up; 100 % for a send. IN and OUT set the gain either side, -24 to +24 dB. ENGAGE crossfades in 20 ms.
16 sourced presets
Start from a cloud that works
A halo under a lead vocal, pads set up for the hold key, a smooth bed for chords, a clean pad, a bright cloud 12 semitones up, a cloud a fifth up, one under the part, clicky and sparse grains, two repeats, a smeared wash, wide drifting clouds and a send preset.
The confetti
See the cloud move
A cloud of gold and paper confetti hangs in the room, lit up and drifting with the cloud you hear. Press the hold key and the confetti stops in the air; switch ENGAGE off and it rests.
Inside the plugin
The Crumbler window: two big knobs, three types, SCATTER and PITCH, the hold key, and confetti that drifts with the cloud.

Questions
What is a granular effect?
It slices your sound into many short overlapping pieces, grains, here 32 to 512 ms, taken from the last second you played, and plays them back at random moments, places and pitches as a cloud.
Will it make my track louder or quieter?
No: the cloud is level-matched to the dry sound at every setting; every factory preset averages within 0.32 LU of the dry.
Does it add latency?
About 1.3 to 1.4 ms (61 samples at 44.1 kHz), reported to your DAW, which compensates.
How long can it hold a sound?
The last 1.02 seconds, for as long as the hold key is lit.
Will a render sound the same every time?
Yes: from the same start the cloud is bit-identical.
Can I use it on a send?
Yes: Return / Cloud Only sets MIX to 100 %.
Mono or stereo?
Both; SCATTER spreads the cloud across the stereo field.
Does it work in my DAW?
Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.
Does it need the internet?
Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.
Is there a manual?
Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://lenuque.com/crumbler-granular-effect-manual.
What if it's not for me?

Founder's Story
"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.
So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."
- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
Any sound, crumbled into a cloud. At the same loudness.
Two big knobs, three types, a key that holds the cloud in the air, and a cloud that stays at your track's loudness and renders the same every time.
