YapperWah · the talking sweep of a wah on any track, on every note, on the beat or under your hand

The talking sweep of a wah with no pedal.

Insert it on a guitar, keys, bass, synth or vocal and it quacks: on every note you play, rocked on the song's beat, or parked and swept under your hand. It sweeps the same on a quiet take or a loud one, the level stays even with the dry track, and it adds no latency.

Hear the difference

The same part, without and with Yapper.

AUTO on a funk rhythm guitar

A synthesised clean funk rhythm part on ninth chords - Auto / Funk Quack (AUTO, QUACK 5)

AUTO on a plucked keys groove

A synthesised electric-keys groove of short stabs - the slow-release AUTO preset for keys (SPEED 250 ms)

BASS on a funk bass line

A synthesised funk bass line with pops and ghost notes - Bass / Bass Envelope (AUTO, BASS on, SENSE 70 %)

SYNC sixteenths on held synth chords

Synthesised held synth chords at 120 BPM - Sync / Sixteenth Wakka (SYNC, SPEED 1/16)

A one-bar sweep on a sung hook

A dry sung hook at 128 BPM - Sync / Slow Solo Sweep (SYNC, SPEED 1 bar, QUACK 4)

PEDAL automated heel to toe under a lead line

A synthesised single-note lead line - Init with TYPE PEDAL, the PEDAL knob automated once a beat

The guitar, keys, bass and synth parts are synthesised, computed rather than played; the vocal is a sung loop. Each pair is loudness-matched.

Yapper in action

Yapper in under a minute on a synthesised funk guitar: AUTO, SENSE, PEDAL, QUACK, SPEED, SYNC, two presets and ENGAGE.

Why Yapper

01

No foot needed

A wah is the sound of a foot on a treadle, and in a DAW there is no foot. AUTO opens the wah on every note, SYNC rocks it on the song's grid, and PEDAL turns one big knob into the treadle, to park, automate or play from a MIDI expression pedal.

02

The same quack on every take

A wah driven by the track's raw level sweeps a quiet take less than a loud one. AUTO reads each note against the recent peak, so takes at -6, -14 and -22 dB in sweep the same (tested), while a softer note still opens it less.

03

Locked to the song

SYNC sits on the host's bar grid, not just its tempo: the heel lands on every note value of the grid, from 1/32 to a bar, triplets included, at any tempo and any start position. RETRIG restarts it on every note.

The Yapper Wah window on Init: an empty stage at night in violet light; the YAPPER logo with a small speech bubble over it and WAH under it; PEDAL at 0 % on the left, reading REST 350 HZ, with QUACK under it; SENSE at 80 % on the right, reading OPENS TO 1.5 KHZ, with SPEED under it; the SWEEP display between them; the AUTO, SYNC and PEDAL keys; a spotlight on the stage floor; RETRIG, BASS and ENGAGE along the bottom.

Pedal. Sense.

Two big knobs do the work: where the sweep rests, from a dark heel to a bright toe, and how far each note opens it. The sweep display and the spotlight show where the wah is now.

The wah plugin

The wah plugin that puts the talking sweep of a wah on any track, with no pedal.

A wah is the sound of a foot on a treadle, and in a DAW there is no foot: the part has to be played live and re-recorded, and a wah driven by the raw level of the track sweeps a quiet take less than a loud one. Yapper puts an auto wah, a tempo-synced wah and a hand-played treadle behind one set of keys.
  • AUTO: every note opens it. The same sweep on a quiet take and a loud one, so a funk part quacks evenly.
  • SYNC: on the beat. Rocked on the song's grid from 1/32 to a bar, with RETRIG to restart on every note.
  • PEDAL: the treadle. One big knob to park, automate, or play from a MIDI expression pedal.
  • Even level, zero latency. Matched to the dry track as it plays, and nothing to make up.
Everything inside
  • PEDAL, SENSE, QUACK and SPEED; RETRIG and BASS.
  • TYPE: AUTO, SYNC and PEDAL, with the sweep display and spotlight.
  • Input and Output gain, IN and OUT meters, MIX and ENGAGE.
  • 15 factory presets and your own preset files; A/B, undo and redo, MIDI Learn on every control; a window from 75 to 200 %; the full manual.
Formats: VST3 and AAX on Windows 7 SP1 or later (64-bit); VST3, AU and AAX on macOS 10.13 or later. Licence: five of your own computers per copy you buy.

Yapper Wah on Sync / Sixteenth Wakka: the SYNC key lit, SPEED set to 1/16, and the SWEEP display mid-travel at 848 Hz.

SYNC

Rocked on the beat.

SYNC rocks the wah heel to toe on the song's grid, from 1/32 to a bar; here on sixteenths, the rhythmic wah of funk rhythm parts.

What Yapper does

Every control has one job: the wah you hear in your head, faster.

TYPE

Three ways to wah

What moves the wah: each note (AUTO), the song's beat (SYNC), or the PEDAL knob (PEDAL). The same band and the same sound in all three, and a switch glides over 30 ms.

AUTO

Every note opens it

Each note opens the wah and it closes behind it, reading each note against the recent peak so a quiet take and a loud one sweep the same. SPEED sets how fast it closes, 30 to 400 ms: a tight quack to a slow bloom. On a held chord it stays open; use SYNC on pads.

SYNC

On the song's grid

One heel-toe-heel rock per note value, on the host's tempo and bar grid: SPEED picks 1/32 to a bar, nine values including triplets. RETRIG restarts the rock from the heel on each new note. Stopped, it keeps rocking at the host's tempo.

PEDAL

The treadle under your hand

The PEDAL knob is the treadle, 0 to 100 %: 350 Hz at the heel, dark, to 2.2 kHz at the toe, bright, with a 20 ms glide. Park it for a fixed, nasal peak, automate it, or MIDI Learn it to an expression pedal.

SENSE

How far it opens

How far each note or rock opens the wah above PEDAL, as a share of the travel, 80 % by default: 350 Hz up to about 1.5 kHz. Softer notes open it less, so your dynamics still talk.

QUACK

Smooth, vocal or quacky

The band's sharpness, Q 1 to 8, 3.5 by default: wide and smooth, vowel-like, or narrow and quacky. The level is kept even as you turn it, so QUACK never jumps the volume.

BASS

The travel for bass

Moves the travel to 250 Hz to 1.2 kHz for bass. A wah takes away the lowest notes, so lower MIX to keep some of the dry bass under it; two Bass presets start there.

Even level

More wah, not more volume

The wah's level is matched to the dry track as it plays, and every preset's average sits within 1 LU of the dry at -10, -18 and -26 LUFS in, so switching it on and off is a fair comparison.

IN, OUT, MIX and ENGAGE

Fit it to the track

IN and OUT set the gain either side, -24 to +24 dB, with meters, and a safety limiter holds the output under -1 dBFS. MIX blends the wah with the untouched track. ENGAGE crossfades in 20 ms, with no click.

15 sourced presets

Start from a wah that works

The sharp funk quack, a slower bloom for keys, gentle and full-travel versions, a slow bloom for chords, sixteenth and eighth rocks, a retriggered rock, a slow lead sweep, three parked peaks and two for bass, each built from a documented setting.

The spotlight

See the sweep

The sweep display shows where the band is between heel and toe, and a spotlight on the stage floor slides from heel, on the left, to toe, on the right, with the wah and glows with the output.

Inside the plugin

The Yapper window: two big knobs, three ways to wah, QUACK and SPEED, and a spotlight that slides with the sweep.

Questions

Do I need a pedal or a MIDI controller?

No. AUTO and SYNC move the wah on their own; PEDAL can be automated in your DAW. If you have a MIDI expression pedal, MIDI Learn on PEDAL makes it a wah pedal under your foot.

Can I play through it live?

Yes. It adds no latency at any setting.

Does it work on bass?

Yes: the BASS pill moves the travel to 250 Hz to 1.2 kHz, and there are two Bass presets. A wah takes away the lowest notes, so lower MIX to keep some of the dry bass under it.

Does it follow my song's tempo?

In SYNC, yes: it reads the host's tempo and position and rocks on the grid in note values from 1/32 to a bar, triplets included. Stopped, it keeps rocking at the host's tempo (or 120 BPM).

Will it make my track louder or quieter?

No: the wah's level is matched to your dry track as it plays; every preset averages within 1 LU of the dry.

Why does the wah stay open on a held chord?

AUTO opens on each new attack and stays open while the sound holds; use SYNC on pads and sustained parts.

Can I use it on vocals or synths?

Yes. SYNC on held synth chords and a slow one-bar sweep on a sung hook are two of the preview clips.

Does it work in my DAW?

Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins, on Windows 7 SP1 or later or macOS 10.13 or later. There is no standalone app.

How many computers can I use it on?

Up to five of your own for each copy you buy. To move it, deactivate it in the plugin on the old computer and unlock it on the new one.

Does it need the internet?

Once, to unlock it with the code we email you. After that it checks in now and then and works offline in between.

Is there a manual?

Yes. The full manual explains every control, every preset and the menus, with tips. It opens from the help key (?) in the plugin's top bar, and lives at https://lenuque.com/yapper-wah-manual.

What if it's not for me?

Request a refund from your account within 90 days.

Founder's Story

"When COVID hit, I finally had time to dive into music production—only to discover I was missing the right tools. The plugins I tried were clunky, overloaded with unnecessary features, and killed my vibe with endless tweaking. I knew there had to be a better way.

So, with my engineering background, I started making free and simple audio plugins for my producer friends. They loved them! That’s when I set out on a mission to create plugins that save you time, streamline your workflow, and keep your creativity flowing."

- Ryan Svensson (Founder & CEO)
